1861: Nationalism and Revolutions

The 1800s can be described as a turbulent period at the very least. It was plagued with the Napoleonic Wars at the start and most European countries had to deal with liberal revolutions in 1848. The Crimean War started to put an end to the peaceful Concert of Europe. With nationalism starting to culminate in the formations of countries like Germany and Italy, tensions are not given much time to rest.

Meanwhile, over in the Americas, things are no calmer. Political tensions in the United States have resulted in the outbreak of a Civil War. Similar stories can be found in both Mexico and the Granadine Confederation. The regional power of Brazil is vying for control over South America with its neighbours, while the topic of slavery is a contested issue all across the Western hemisphere.

While most areas within Africa have remained uncolonized, this peace is slowly starting to be disturbed by the Europeans. All the various cultures on the continent are trying to defend themselves in
